Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Can Provide A Fresh Start

Chapter 7 bankruptcy is the most common type of personal bankruptcy. It allows a consumer to discharge all or most of his or her debt, providing a fresh start. However, bankruptcy is not an easy process, and one mistake could lead to serious problems — including criminal charges.

To get the most out of your bankruptcy filing, it is important to work with an attorney who understands both state and federal bankruptcy law and the way bankruptcy courts operate. I am lawyer Michael E. Eisenberg, and I have more than two decades of experience helping consumers in Pennsylvania file for bankruptcy in ways that maximize its benefits.

I assist clients in the Philadelphia area and Montgomery County with personal bankruptcy matters. To schedule a free consultation, please call my office in Hatboro at 267-728-4535 or 800-851-2534.

What Is Chapter 7?

Chapter 7, also referred to as liquidation bankruptcy, is often used by consumers who have lower or unreliable incomes and high amounts of debt. The process usually takes around four months to complete, and you may only be required to appear once for what is called a meeting of creditors. Of course, each case is unique, and court appearances are possible.

In Chapter 7, any assets that are not protected by the law will be sold to repay creditors. This does not mean, however, that you will lose everything you have.

I know bankruptcy law. I will assess your situation and determine the best choice for you. By filing correctly, many people are able to retain most or even all of their assets.

Can I File For Bankruptcy On My Own?

While it may be possible to file for bankruptcy on your own, it is not recommended. I have the experience to guide you through the process in a way that maximizes asset protection and minimizes risk of incorrect filing. Filing incorrectly, even if you simply forget to fully disclose assets or rights to money such as an inheritance or personal injury recovery, can result in criminal charges for bankruptcy fraud.
